WHAT DO I NEED TO CHARGE FROM HOME?
You will need to have an EV charger installed by a qualified electrician in a space adjacant to where you park your car. You also need to have available capacity on your electrical supply to cope with the extra loading an EV charger draws in from the grid. A home survey by Fuze Box Electrical will be able to ascertain your current installation, and whether any pre-installation works need to be undertaken by the Network Provider (UK Power Networks) before an EV Charger can be fitted. WHAT CHARGER CAN I HAVE AT HOME, HOW POWERFUL IS IT?
The vast majority of UK homes have a single phase supply. Three phase is usually attributed to commercial properties, but some dwellings do have a 3 phase supply. If your unsure, get in touch with us and we can identify what type of supply you have.
Single phase phase dwellings can have an EV charger upto 7KW.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO CHARGE MY CAR?
This is a very broad question which is frequently asked. Most EV's will typically charge from flat, in between 7-10 hours. This will vary from model to model , so it is best to check with the specification of the vehicle. It's worth baring in mind, you don't want to regularly charge from flat, but to keep the vehicle topped up, so these times will be significantly reduced.
Most EV chargers on the market have the ability for the user to schedule the charge time. This is particularly useful if you have an off peak electricity tariff with your provider. You'll be able to charge your car during off peak hours when the unit rate you buy in electricity, is significantly cheaper.
